No More Barking?
From the RVing with Pets Forum...
"There are some old posts about taking care of a dog that talks too much. The most popular answer to this is a shock (or spray) collar. But one of my kids is a teacup Chihuahua and some of those collars are bigger than her! ..."
Many people replied to this post suggesting shock collars. I just don't like the idea of those shock collars. I got an invisible fence once, and I had to put two of those collars on my dogs. I tried it first on my arm, then I promptly threw them in the trash. You cannot replace proper training with electronic shocks.
I would suggest the following:
Put some coins in a tin can and duct tape the top completely. When your little dog yaps, shake the can real hard. It should be loud and surprise them. If you do this enough times, your dog will associate barking with a very unpleasant noise. Most people find that this works!
Happy Training!

My dogs have guard dog barking. Doesn't bark when I am present, thanks to plain water squirt bottle. However, when I am not in RV, she barks at passersby, kids playing within sight, etc. Shock not an option. Citronella collars are too big for neck. They do better when crated in back because they cannot see movement. Would a personal trainer help? I have seen ads for in home training.
Hi
You know one of the hardest problems to solve is when dogs do something when we aren't around. I have seen personal trainers do wonders, especially if the owner follows through diligently. You seem like the type who would follow through.
I would also recommend the possibility of a dog behavioralist. Maybe, even a phone consultation. I did a phone consultation once for $50 and it paid back in spades. The woman asked a bunch of questions and then she gave me great recommendations. Some worked and some didn't.
Let me know what you do.

My killer minature daushound, (sp) aka a winnie dog, went on her 1st camping trip in July. She just loves to bark while backing up. We used the water bottle and it worked well, even though she loves water. She does stay in a kennal when we are not around the camper. This saves our belongings.
